High mountain walk: Eigiau Horseshoe

As part of our 50th anniversary celebrations for 2017, we’ve teamed up with the Trefriw Walking Festival for this high mountain walk for members of Snowdonia Society and the public.

This challenging mountain walk, often called the Eigiau Horseshoe, will start and finish from the car park in Cwm Eigiau (transport by minibus) to then take in the peaks of Foel Grach and Carnedd Llewelyn (both 3000’ers), as well as Pen Yr Helgi Du and Pen Llithrig y Wrach.

The route does not always follow obvious paths.  Some sections are also exposed, and in a couple of places hands will be needed for scrambling. The walk entails a total of some 3500′ (1100m) of ascent, and will offer some great views if the cloud is high. However, please note that the route will likely be altered or shortened if weather conditions are not favourable.

Full water/windproofs, warm clothing, and good mountain boots are essential.

Duration: All day, 8 hrs walking. Please bring a packed lunch.
Distance: 15 km/ 10 miles
Grade: Strenuous high mountain
Suitability: Fit experienced walkers
Meet: 8.45 a.m. at Trefriw Village Hall (LL27 0JH, SH781631)  for minibus to walk starting point
