Spring sprung in earnest last week as a multitude of stallholders gathered in Conwy’s historic town centre for the annual Seed Fair, hosted by Conwy Beekeepers.
Snowdonia Society trustee Margaret Thomas, said:
“We’re delighted that so many people took an interest in our plants and seeds this year. It seems like there’s a growing awareness of the importance of pollinator-friendly plants, with many people selecting species for their gardens that will help butterflies and bees to thrive.”
She added: “From bluebells to betony, we’ve a catalogue of seeds and plants that are good for the garden, many of them originating from the beautiful wildlife garden at Tŷ Hyll.”
As well as plant sales, two new members joined on the day and tens of people stopped by for a chat to find out how they could do their bit to help protect Snowdonia.
This year the Snowdonia Society made a substantial £290 in plant and seed sales; a record since its involvement with the annual event.
Rooted in historyThe Snowdonia Society has been selling plants to raise money for Snowdonia since its founding by Esmé Kirby in 1967. The photo (right) shows one of Esmé’s renowned plant sales from those early days at Dyffryn Mymbyr.
