Annual General Meeting at Yr Ysgwrn, Trawsfynnydd on Saturday 16th November 2024

You are warmly invited to our Annual General Meeting at Yr Ysgwrn, Trawsfynnydd on Saturday 16th November 2024.

One of the reasons we have chosen Yr Ysgwrn is that it is on the T2 bus route which links Bangor, Porthmadog, Dolgellau and Machynlleth. However, the bus reaches Trawsfynydd just before the start of the meeting. If you plan to use this bus, please let us know at the time you book, and we can arrange a lift from the bus stop to Yr Ysgwrn.

Our guest speaker this year is Gareth Roberts.

Gareth will talk about how the landscape and the communities around Arenig and Cwm Prysor inspired two famous artists – one a poet the other an artist – to produce their most memorable international work in the second decade of the 20th century. This landscape has changed significantly since then. Gareth will encourage a discussion about how the special qualities of Snowdonia, which are under such constant threat, can be protected and improved, in order to inspire us for the future.

This is your opportunity to join the staff and trustee team in an enjoyable day, learn about the Society’s work over the past year and plans for the next.

The Annual Report, Annual Accounts and the Review of the Year will be available on our website: www.snowdonia-society.org.uk by 2nd November.

If you are unable to access the information via our website please contact the office by emailing info@snowdonia-society.org.uk or phoning the office on 01286 685498. We will then email or post the documents to you. Those registering to attend the AGM will be sent the documents automatically by email.

Thank you so much for your continuing support for the Society and all our work to protect and enhance Snowdonia.

Changes to the Society’s Constitution

The current Constitution was approved in 2013.  It has stood the test of time  and served the Society well.  However, the Board now proposes to make some minor amendments for clarification and updating.  The revised document can be found HERE and will be presented at the AGM under Item 9 on the agenda.  The Board hopes that members will vote in favour of the amendments.

Text that is proposed for deletion is shown with ‘strike through’.  Replacement or additional text is shown in red.  Members can contact the Society (director@snowdonia-society.org.uk) before the AGM itself if they wish to discuss any of the proposed changes – as this could save time at the AGM itself.

The main changes are at Sections 13, 14 and 17.  The changes clarify the process for appointing trustees and other officers, who will all be eligible to serve for up to 9 years.    This is already the case for trustees, but the wording in the existing Constitution is unclear about the precise way to calculate 9 years.  The new wording is simpler.
