Care for Snowdonia – looking back at a busy summer

From Easter through until the beginning of October teams of Care for Snowdonia volunteers have been out regularly in a range of locations across the national park.

Every weekend and in all weathers, volunteers have picked up litter, given advice to visitors, answered questions, and been a friendly presence in the mountains. Now that a busy summer is over, we can take stock of what has been achieved:

  • 120 days spent caring for Snowdonia
  • 117 people have volunteered
  • 469 bags of litter collected
  • 1044 kg of litter collected

These statistics give an insight into the huge impact that Care for Snowdonia teams have had, as well as feeding into long-term litter data which helps to prioritise work. And as well as volunteers out on the ground, our social media messaging campaign has reached over 990 thousand people, sharing advice on how to enjoy Snowdonia responsibly before people even arrive. This wide-ranging project is the result of partnership working between The Snowdonia Society, Snowdonia National Park Authority, the Outdoor Partnership and the National Trust, and is also supported by a number of experienced local professional outdoor activity leaders.

We are glad to have contributed to local efforts to care for Snowdonia over the busy summer and would also like to highlight hard work done by others such as the fantastic Snowdon and Cadair Idris volunteer wardens, Llanberis Taclus, litter-pickers in Capel Curig and many more. Special thanks to Pen Ceunant cafe too for the cake!

Thank you again to everyone who has given their time and efforts this summer caring for the people and places of Snowdonia – your hard work has made a huge difference, even gaining recognition in Parliament!
